  • Have insurance coverage up to 80% of the replacement value, not the historical cost.

  • Keep an inventory of all your belongings. It is especially important to keep a record of the make and model # of all your electronic applicances.

  • Videotape all of the items on the list, along with the interior and exterior of your house.

  • Keep the original invoice for all of your belongings. As well, get an estimate of their replacement value. Make copies of the invoices and the estimates.

  • Keep the list, the videotape, the invoices and the estimates in a safe place. Also, have copies of these items that are not stored at your home, for example: in a safety deposit box.
